sleeping beauty

James awakened from his nap about 8:30pm and commented that wasn't it DARK for the morning? And he was glad it was a PA day today. I had to burst his bubble and tell him it was 8:30pm not 8:30am. His fever seems to have gone down a lot. He is again watching hockey on tv bundled up in his blankies.

Update on the wee one

He powered out of bed at 7:30am dancing but returned after about 1/2 hour saying his tummy didn't feel well. He moaned about a bit as he is not a happy sick camper. It distresses him a lot. He had a bit of a fever. He lay down to watch hockey. He would be ok for 1/2 hour then cry because of the pain. He tried having water a couple of times but that disturbed his system too much. Finally, around lunch time he had some water and it didn't make him complain, so I gave him some crackers and that seemed to go ok too. He ate about a dozen but hasn't had the appetite for anything else. He seemed to do ok in the afternoon- no complaints at least. He played quietly and watched Corner Gas. (thanks bro- I always think of you when he watches it)
Than he was tired and he fell asleep about 6pm. Hopefully, he is on the mend!

Happy Birthday Bro!

All you get this year is a blog post. lol :) Course that's probably what you got last year too...let me know if blog posts don't serve as adequate presents!

In June Kim was told her mom had a week to live. Her mom had chemo. Kim was told it was unlikely that her mom would respond. The cancer was gone from her body after the first treatment. The tumors had eaten away at Kim's mom's bones. They told Kim that she would need surgery to put pins in the bones to hold them together. Last week Kim's mom had X-rays and THE BONES ARE GROWING BACK. She doesn't need surgery anymore! Kim's mom is a walking (literally!) miracle.

James was supposed to go to artillery park gym today to play with his friends but he's not feeling well today :(

Empty

As you can probably ascertain from the lack of posts, the wheels sort of fell off in the last week. A brief summary:
-this is the week I had to get a lot of the course set up + the exam schedule has to be done by Mon aft.= about 4 hours of sleep a night
-myron's uncle died last saturday
-our car battery conked out on wed and so james couldn't go to hockey practice
-I haven't sent my bro's birthday card and his birthday is tomorrow! He's coming to kingston in a couple of weeks for an interview- maybe we can celebrate then. I'll pretend I planned it that way.
-James finished his gymnastics course. After March break he'll be starting ball hockey and swimming.
-James went to the fronts game last night- it was minor hockey night so he went with his team- he didn't get to sleep until 11pm then he had to be up early for an 8am game. I'm going to bed early even if he isn't (Hockey night in Canada)
-my brain isn't really functioning now, so I'm going to mark papers

Ear, Ear

James has an ear infection he was up screaming in the night the last couple of nights. He's on antibiotics and pain killers now.

All of a sudden it seems a bunch of people are in the hospital- Will's son has something leaking inside him after stomach surgery, E-F had her appendix rupture and so on. This downward spiral has to reverse at some point.

We start the exam scheduling for April on Monday but we have no VENUES yet. People at the top have to decide if they will allow us to use the PEC. We are awaiting their decision. Not that we have to do it Mon am as we have to load the data in before we can start scheduling. I hope someone can make a decision very soon!

I have a lot of marking and scheduling to do on the weekend. Need to sleep now as last night was not good at all.

air bubble

Tonight it felt like I had an air bubble in my head. How do you pop an air bubble in your head, I wondered. It's feeling better now though.

The Bachelor last night was good. I thought it was good the he let michelle go before she tortured herself through another rose ceremony. I thought it was good that he let the girl who seemed to be playing games go as well as some other girl I didn't remember. Vienna seems to be the one he is currently most invested in. I think they are down to 9 now and next week he doesn't want to give out 2 of the roses, which is quite a high %. They might have planned to take it from 9 to 7 and it goes 9 to 5 cutting them almost in half instead.

Thinking about Marlene today as they were planning an induction this morning.

Today was noticeably easier for me thanks to Henrie's work on Thursday as I do a lot of my house cleaning on Saturday.
I did up my TA schedules and did some marking.
AJ was over in the afternoon and the boys had a great time together, though AJ was very upset when he had to go home- he doesn't like to leave. They'll have another playdate tomorrow, I'm sure.
I have to go in to work after Church as there is an optional tutorial for the students plus I have a pile of set-up to get done.

I made pizza tonight, tacos tomorrow!

Reinvention

This video is called the pizza turnaround about how a pizza co. faced it's criticism head on.

Henriette did a great job reinventing my house. She threw out a few things that we actually need, but it's a worthy price to pay to have the house look as good as it does right now. It's seriously great and she only tackled 2 rooms. Very helpful for me.

opening up your life

I have got to a point where I can not cope with my house on my own, so I have hired someone to help me. Not just anyone. But super-Henriette! She's starting tomorrow. I'm very excited.
It's a bit weird to have someone else looking at your dirt but I think it will be worth it for making my life easier.

Monday I had to work in the evening but I got home in time for the last bit of the Bachelor. I got to see Roz get booted off. I thought she took the being booted off a reality tv show pretty well. I think if the allegations were untrue she would have been more upset. She is hitting the tabloids(?) saying abc made it all up but it really didn't look that way. I was amused by her line that "My personal life is none of your business". Well, if you go on a reality tv show, actually, it's the entire nation's business. I'm not sure what memo she missed on that one. I think Jake probably dodged a bullet there!

strategic changeover

I read what I wrote yesterday about with the phrase 'big deal' and I cringed a bit as that doesn't really describe in words what this is. I don't think I'm describing this aspect of what I am doing well. I am working on a total infrastructure change for a course of 700 students. If it is workable this is a big change for me to manage. This is also big for Mike to manage as he is the Moodle manager. So it's big for both of us if it works out as we hoped.

It was good to see Marlene today too- she's in a for a big changeover too. (hopefully this week!)

On Friday I watched the 'extra' discs that came with James Star Wars 1,2,3 DVDs. They are the trailer/extra scene/ behind the scene sort of discs. We just watched the trailers and the extra/extended scene ones as James doesn't care much for behind the scene stuff. Now it's rather silly for me to watch the extra/extended scene bits as I haven't seen the originals so I don't know what bits are extra or in the real movie.

At one point in this extra stuff (that may also be in the movie) Yoda says something like: The dark side clouds everything. You can't escape it.
And I thought that was a pretty good description of things.

In the pod race which 6 year old Anakin competes in, there are Sandpeople that shoot at the pods. In one case, they down a pod and the Jawas go out to scavenge the materials and the sandpeople shoot at the jawas. I found this part actually kind of funny. The Jawa's stick with the sandpeople because they know there will be things to scavenge but then the ones that provide their source are also the ones that want to hurt them.

De-worming

Today I have spent laundering and cleaning in hopes of doing the complete job they say to do for de-worming, but it is nowhere near complete so I'm feeling sort of like I can't do anymore. So we'll just have to hope there are no worms left lurking where I didn't clean!

We all had to take a nasty pill too. It says it can take up to 3 days to cleanse your system of the worms (if you have them). James went to the doctor in October and they did a test on him and they told us in January that he has pinworm (a common school age thing). A bit late, since now James may not have them anymore and he may have transmitted them to others. James' main symptom was an itchy butt, however, he hasn't complained about it for ages.

Tomorrow I have to do up the scheduling sheets for the course that starts on Monday. I also have lots more questions for Mike. It will be a very interesting launch this year! And potentially a big deal!

Invincible

James was playing his star wars game as a 'yoda ghost' which means that he is invisible in the game. He kept saying "I'm invincible!" and after a while I said "Do you mean you are invisible?" and he said "No, I'm invincible!". So I guess he knew what he was talking about after all.

The doctor said that James has worms so we all have to take de-worming tablets tomorrow. Ew. They have pretty strong side effects, so I hope we make it.

My friend in India was talking about how it was less than 10C and I had to laugh as I would WISH for temperatures only under 10C. lol.

Finished training

My whirlwind training finished today and my trainer declared my brain to be a 'mouse on cocaine'. I took it as a compliment. I think.

I did not call Mike at lunch hour today. I wonder if he missed me? lol. Having a whole lunch hour to do things was novel. Though I mainly did things for my course, it was rather relaxing compared to most of my lunch hours recently!

Lunch hour with Mike

I am in pretty intense training for scheduling right now.

At lunch time, I get on the phone and call Mike. Mike is in charge of Moodle. The course I work for uses Moodle. I am trying to get Moodle to do my job. I am hoping it works out as it will be easier for me in the long run- but will mean these first 3 weeks of term will be more intense if I am having to set up Moodle to do new things. Hopefully, it will pay off!

A new year, a new bachelor

Karyne asked me on Monday if I was watching the Bachelor- how could I not?
How else would I entertain y'all on Tuesdays?
Although the first night I normally don't have much to comment on as there are so many girls that it is hard to keep track of them all.
The stalker girl always seems to make it for a bit and again Michelle made the cut. Jason had a stalker girl who made it a few weeks in as well. I can't see this girl lasting too long.
I really liked Ali (who I think makes it pretty far) and Emily (who was cut the first night).
If you want to know who spoilers say win, just let me know!
It looks like it will be a pretty dramatic season- we'll have to see how it goes.

I got heaps of work done on Monday. One of my office mates said something like nobody gets much done the first day back at work, but I did! Heaps. I started timetable training today and it was good, but tiring. Very interesting to see how it all worked.
Tomorrow we start exam scheduling training which will be very interesting and useful as well.

Al's sermon as summarized by James

I just overheard James explain Al's sermon from this morning to AJ:
Al showed a picture of Han Solo then C3PO then R2D2. When he showed R2D2 he (Al) said "I might need some adjustment".

Glad he got the main focus anyway.

Star wars and its import for the new year

Today Al's sermon had a star wars theme. A couple of days ago Kim's church did their new years motto up like the intro to star wars. Obviously Star wars is going to be very important this year. Certainly to James!

Before Church James gave this beautiful quote "I want to sleep in Church but Al keeps talking and making me think"

Al mentioned today that Rustle was 'warm'. He probably thinks igloos are warm too. sigh. I wore thermal underwear not for the walk to Rustle but for being inside Rustle. I find it rather towards the 'cold' than the 'warm'.

James has developed some hoarding tendencies. For example, clothes that he has clearly outgrown, he gets upset when I give them away. He did let me give away a pair of socks today- small steps!

It is hard to believe that tomorrow is back to school and back to work!

post 1601 into 2010

Last night James and Myron went skating at the KRC and watched the fireworks by the water. I went to Kim's church for their celebration. It was quite difficult for me as I am not used to staying up that late plus recovering from the migrane thing with all the lights and sounds was a bit challenging, but I had a good time over all!

Kim's church is very different from Rustle in look. They are big lights, big sounds, big excitement and they always start on time, while Rustle is more low key,relaxed, community focused and we (never?) start on time. But it's the same spirit of God behind it all and we believe the same core truths just the expression is different. And it is important to have this as different people receive from God in different ways so it is good there is diversity in between churches.

Today I did heaps of dishes and marked the 30 chem projects. I finalized all my marks for the fall term. I still have to make up my NC list and email all the students on it with what their options are.

In the next couple of days I will have to do up the schedules for next term.
