Spent most of today in meetings.

Tomorrow morning I have to try to pull the course marks together to prepare for the upload.
Tomorrow afternoon I have a meeting with the registar about the timetable for next year.

Friday one of our summer students is starting so I'll be working on orientation with her and planning the workshop for Saturday.

Saturday morning is Christine's service and then in the afternoon we have workshops for the incoming students.

Solus (university student system) is going down for maitenance on the weekend, thus blocking any grade entry extra work over the weekend. Not like it sounds like I have time to do that. I'll see if I can do P20 marks tomorrow evening.

3000

I have reached the 3000 post mark on this blog!

I spent a lot of today in meetings and tomorrow looks the same. But the marks are close to being done, just need to pull them together and post them, so that is good.

James is working on some giant poster and it is all over the floor right now.

Johnny is posting every few hours about the search for the missing boys. Nothing has turned up yet. Many there have not slept much since Sunday.

lost at sea

Yesterday two young men went out to go fishing and have not returned yet. They left from near Johnny's house and he tells me that the community is distressed. The official search party shut down at 8:30pm but the locals are on the water all night searching. Hoping against hope that they find them alive.

My day was productive in that I ran the exam, during which I loaded grades.

After the exam I did many more things involving grades and very little involving my email.

The good news is that the grades I was working on are almost complete.

I will have to tackle my email tomorrow!

The way of love

Before Rustle this morning I read a chapter in a book about loving our neighbours (by a man who had led some large churches- his revelation on bringing the love from a macro level to a micro level)

Then on the walk in, I passed a lady who was talking to herself. I couldn't hear her until I had passed but she was pointing and saying "I hate him, I hate her, I hate that car". It seemed all very random. Haters going to hate. But love is the better way.

Then Brandon's sermon was on "Love is never the wrong way". The part that was a bit uncomfortable was the group work portion as he made us do some work. In our groups we were to give an example of a situation that we went into to try to show love to someone else but gained something ourself. It is never easy to be vulnerable especially on short notice, so I'm never a big fan of group work. But I learned something very surprising, not from my own group but from overhearing another group. Bob N. talked about the homeless shelter we had worked on about 15 years ago which was to show love to homeless people and that I had given him this piece of wisdom that he had left with leaning something. This was very surprising to me because I didn't know what I said had that impact. I am still trying to digest this (in a good way). It was a wow moment for me anyway. So it was far above my expectations of what I was going to get out of group work!

Tomorrow morning I have an exam to run and working on wrapping up the grades for the course. We have a grades meeting on Wednesday so I hope to have them completed by then!

Street talk

A guy approached me on the street today and this was our conversation

My students did well to get in the paper

But they did not do so well in that they left the project space a mess and I had to spend some time cleaning it. I wasn't too pleased about that.

The cut happened

He took it well though. On to AA tryouts.

One day Christine and I were trying to look for a song that she had in her head. We didn't find it but we found this one instead and enjoyed listening to the ethereal music.

cut #1

Tonight is cut #1 on the AAA tryouts and James is not on the roster to skate.
That means one of two things- either they know they like him or they know they don't. The middle skates.
He was in the group that skated last year so he's either gone up or down. Either is possible but as he didn't make single A last year I am not too hopeful. If he makes it through this cut, there is another cut on the weekend.
We'll see how he handles it. The worst is that he needs to sit through the whole skate to find out if he made it through the cut or not.

Zenith

My course reached a zenith today with the final presentations. I was on the run for most of the day and it mostly all went well except for a few snafus. I ran on adrenaline. There was a lot of work put into getting that ready. So good that it is over.

James is still working on being a Junior Frontenac, but he is feeling sick tonight. Hopefully, he feels better before the next tryout game.

We at Rustle are walking through our own grief and it is hard. I don't even know how to write about it so I won't try.

I went into work today as I needed to get the Project Manager offers sent out. I still have more emails to do but that will have to wait until Tuesday.

Monday is the big project showcase and I will be run off my feet but I will have a lot of fun too.

the running day

I crisscrossed the campus today more times than I can count. Only once in a planned excursion but many times unplanned. The exam today required some extra work.

I finished my taxes. The government owes me some money but not much- it was pretty balanced out with what I already paid in taxes being approx what I should pay, which doesn't often work out that way. This is the first year of there being some RRSP that I had to pay into through Queen's so I wasn't sure how that was going to go for a while so I wasn't able to make too many adjustments for that. I know more for this year!

On Sunday I went to Subway for a BLT but they did not warn me that they had no tomatoes or green peppers, so I ended up with a BLC (Bacon Lettuce Cucumber) sandwich!

Today I started a new programme called "Pray Write Grow" that combines praying and writing and the end result is hopefully growth. The book is a Kindle book only and I don't have a Kindle so I am working off some extraneous notes and my own ideas.

Hello spring?

I spent most of my day at work planning the hiring for the 100 course for next year as well as preparing for the showcase next week.

What was nice about today was the weather. I spent my lunch hour walking. I went to the water and saw all the broken up ice near to the shore. I saw the new residence buildings that will be ready for September. More residences, but no more classroom space.

Today we had tacos for dinner and James and I watched BB Can. Not sure there is anyone that I am rooting for but they are amusing.

Walking in water

I woke up early this morning so I could make it to Bethel for the 9am baptism service. I went because one of my students was getting baptized. I was not sure if she was getting baptized in the early service or the late service so I thought I would go for the early one and see how things went. When I arrived at Bethel and received a bulletin, it said that the baptism would be in BOTH services. I was still not sure how this was going to go. The Church was packed. I don't know how many people Bethel seats but it was full. The last time I was there was at Jul's goodbye service, which was also packed. There were lots of students there and I saw Clarence and Lexa and their family as well.

But going back to the baptism, it was explained during the service that some would be baptised it the first service and some in the second, so that explained how they could have a baptism in both.
What they had done, which was neat, was for all the baptismal candidates they had recorded a very professionally done video that told their story. And they showed all those videos for all the candidates (even if they were getting baptized in the second service) I thought that was a really good idea and very well done. My student was getting baptized in the second service but I got to watch her story in the first. The funny thing was that in the first service Anna was getting baptized. Anna is one of James' friends and a classmate until the end of last year. I didn't know her last name until today. That was really neat to see- a good surprise. And they played "Oh happy day at the end"

Because there were so many people, I thought it best not to stay until the next service as the seat would be needed and I had experienced enough.

I thought to be efficient I would stop at Shoppers on my way to Rustle. However, I forgot the tax forms and ended up having to go by Shoppers after Rustle as well. It was a nice day, though still a bit chilly. Not a great hardship.

Jared's dad led the signing and one of the songs that he talked about was a baptism song that they sang when they were in India. Some of the other things that he said was like he had been listening to Mady and my conversation before Church! Good times.

So I left my house at 8:30 and was home at 2:30. I took another nap (I love weekends!) and now am going to vacuum and tackle some more of the taxes before Kim's service starts.

Tax fail

So in reviewing my taxes from last year, in the letter of assessment it said the amount of my deductions was off by about $1600 (in their favor) but I can't find where the error was so I got frustrated and gave up on the tax thing. I also didn't have the tax package so I was printing off forms as I needed them, but I ran out of printing paper. So I'll check at the post office tomorrow if they still have tax packages. I don't know if they do as they are all up about their online filing.

I did get some cleaning done and took a 2 hour nap. Not bad for a Saturday! (other than the tax fail)

Spring stigmata

What I now call the spring stigmata is back on my hands and feet. The first time it happened I was worried and went to the doctor. The looked puzzled and gave me a cream. But the cream didn't help. It appears to come back on a yearly cycle and is only a mild annoyance (itchy), so I will wait until it goes away on its own.

Today I look forward to cleaning and taxes!

Sister Act

I woke up at 5am this morning but got back to sleep eventually and woke again at 7am.
Shortly after, James called me. I answered and he fell back asleep. He denied this ever happened after.
The Easter morning service was at our sister Church Kingscourt. The theme was All things new. Billy and Jackie spoke about what God was doing in their lives. At the last song Pastor Kathleen was rapping and dancing I had a flashback to Sister Act.

In the evening service at Kim's Church they started with "Happy Day" so connected well with the Sister Act theme of the day!

debris

I started raking up the debris from winter and filled the green bin. There are still some snow banks so I'll have to finish raking another time whatever is beneath them.

There was some ice and snow that came down overnight. My trip to Loblaws was successful. It was busy for 7am but not overly so. I will have to start bringing the flyer with me though as there were still things that weren't marked correctly.

Lots of vacuuming and ironing today. Tomorrow will have to tackle the bathrooms. My least favorite task!

The service at Kim's Church was excellent. There were a lot of people there from Living Word (old Church)- Kim, Janice, Carolyn, Kevin, Barb. Quite a conglomeration from the past.

The bread and turkey turned out well today.

Tomorrow I'll try to get out early (if the snow permits) and do some shopping. Try to beat the crowds as everything is closed tomorrow as well so Easter Saturday tends to be a busy one.

starting to look like spring

It was warmer yesterday. Spring is taking a long time coming. Spring seems to fail on the install every year now. Normally by this time I am able to hang laundry outside.

Kim is coming over after work and we are going to a Good Friday service together.

I got up early and made dough to make cinnamon challah bread. (I promised Kim lunch)

Going to put turkey in the slow cooker for dinner.

pranks

I had to wake up early today to play pranks. Then lots of interviews and reading so I got behind on my email. Hopefully will catch up tomorrow.

James claimed I couldn't prank a dead cat, but I certainly tried!
