vortex

I am currently finishing up a vortex of assignments. It has been sucking up all of my lunch hours.

James has a whole heap of extra curricular activities on the go. He's got spring hockey mon and wed. evenings.
Swimming on tues evening.
pond hockey tues and sat.
pioneers thurs.
He just made a competitive soccer team. In the summer they will practice mon, tues and have games thurs evening.
currently they have soccer practice on wed evenings (which conflicts with his spring hockey) and they are adding a practice on sunday.
keeping up with all of this makes my head whirl!

Last night I woke up in the night with a headache, which is odd as I rarely get headaches during the day. So, pretty tired now!

pilot

This is a pretty neat Youtube video of an aircraft landing a couple of days ago.
The front landing gear failed to come down so the pilot attempted landing without it. Luckily, the gear does eventually come down and everyone is fine.

Last night James got up at 3am. I think he kicked the covers off and was cold. So he woke me up. I got him all tucked in and he immediately fell asleep. However, I did not! So I've been up since thr-ee!

In the storm

Today was a pretty long day what with the 5am start for the 7am hockey game.
They lost the game but they were the last Kingston team standing so they did pretty well!
The boys met me at Loblaws after the game. There were other hockey families in Loblaws at that time. The only ones spirited enough to be up so early on Sun am.

I took James to Church shortly after we got back. We worked on an email he wanted to write to his friend to invite them to a ball hockey tournament that he is planning. Always the planner that boy.
The service started with "Run" (Snow Patrol's). I really like that song.
James and I sat near the back as I was expecting some people from work who were going to drop something off for me after their Church finished.
Sam started his sermon off with a movie clip in which a guy gets trapped under a boulder and has to cut his arm off to survive (based on a true story). Sam picked out the parts that highlight the importance of water. I though it also showed the value in asking for help.
Sam then spoke from John 4 about the woman and the well and spiritual water. Bob N and Hez also spoke on worshipping in the spirit.
Bob talked about the importance being based in love and Hez talked about how worshipping in the spirit is also shown through how we act.
Then my expected guests showed up. James saw them pull up so I went to the front door to greet them. They came to sit down for the last few minutes. They were confused by the new chairs for a brief second. The new chairs are really amazing but they are like seats in the cinema and require you to push down on them first. It is funny that people would not know this, but there you go. I took some pics of the chairs today and will post soon.
After the service was done, I expected they would experience some of the uniqueness of Rustle. Carolyn found them first, which was a good thing. And it all went well until James and Bob N. got involved in shaving cream fight and John P. needed me to fix the photocopier. Luckily the problem with the photocopier was not shaving cream related.
Rustle can be a lot to take in because it is so busy so I think they were a bit overloaded but I think they enjoyed themselves.

My nose is currently overloaded but I am unsure if it is a cold or allergies. James is the same way. I used lots of Vicks tonight in case that would help.

Kids 4 kids

James is playing in the Kids 4 kids tournament this weekend.

It started Friday afternoon. He had to leave school early as his game was at 2:30pm. He refers to this as "the best day of my life". He evidently likes getting out of school early to play hockey. They won that game.

This morning he had another game. There was a delay part way into the game as the opposing goaltender puked. It happens I suppose. A worker from in the Invista center had to scrape it off into a bucket, which can't be a nice job. The opposing team had to bring out their backup goalie, which also took some time. So that game only had 2 periods, not 3. They only have an hour or 50 minutes of ice time total for the game so the periods are shorter than regular hockey ones (in case you were wondering!). They lost that game.

This afternoon he had a game that his team won. Then he went on to participate in a "skills competition" at the KRC. There was a guy from the Montreal Canadians there which James was quite excited about.

James' team made the quarter finals (8 teams made it, they were number 8). Their game is tomorrow at 7am so we're heading to bed soon.

I totally forgot Earth hour until my mom called and mentioned it. We're going to bed really early tonght so I hope Earth night counts to make up 1/2 hour of Earth hour that we missed!

There is a little girl I may have mentioned a while ago on my blog. She's really sick again and needs a lot of prayer. You can read her mother's recent update here.

Too much supernanny

This post probably won't make sense unless you've watched Supernanny at least once.
Supernanny wasn't on today but it has been on Friday evenings. When James found out it was not on he suggested we play a game called "timeout".
First he pretended to push me.
So I gave him a "warning".
Then he said "5 minutes later" and he pretended to push me again.
So I had to put him in "Timeout", which he groused about going into (as do all the kids on the show)
Then he said "8 minutes later"
And I asked him what he was put in timeout for. He said for pushing me.
Then I said that he needed to apologize and he said no.
I told him he would have to stay in timeout until he said he was sorry. And he said "Sorry" with the same attitude that the kids on the show sometimes have (they know they have to say it but might not REALLY be sorry)
Then I told him it was time for hugs and kisses. Normally he is quite resistant to those sorts of things. (and to pink, he is quite resistant to pink) But I told him that supernanny said he couldn't get out of timeout unless he did "hugs and kisses" and so I got a hug.
Not a bad game really but I can't see why James likes it so much!

Bring on the beige

Today I saw a beige-y brown police car. A police car trying to blend in with the dirty surroundings? I was amused. It doesn't take much.

I slept much better last night but am still feeling the effects of the bad night the day before today. I've got a stuffy nose as well so not feeling all that great :(

There was some kind of bug on the ceiling today that distracted James immensely during his homework time. Shieleen suggested vacuuming the bug up, so I did. Much better now :)

Beat

I had a hard time getting to sleep last night. I guess Dancing with the Stars is as exciting as the Bachelor. Produces the same insomniac type problem, anyway. Must cut out reality tv, if I can!
Anyway THAT wasn't the problem.
Then I woke up at 3:30am for no particular reason.
THAT wasn't the problem either.
My alarm clock went off at 4am.
THAT was the problem.

My alarm clock has been having issues for a while now and it is quite obvious now that it has a screw loose. I no longer trust it with my waking. Silly thing.

I was so tired at the start of the day that I was dizzy too and I thought I wouldn't make it through the day, but I did! Ready for bed now though, just have to force myself to stay up a few more hours :)

Out of the gate

The March break is over. The real world has begun.
James said the most exciting part of his day was his lunch. He got a special lunchables thing so he was pretty happy with that.
Work was good- the proctor schedule got out!
Tomorrow we send out course reports!

Bright moon rising

Last night I looked out and saw the bright moon and thought the moon looked especially bright. Then I read on John Revell's facebook a link that indicated that the moon was at it's closest possible approach to the earth and so they also expected higher tides, etc.

Aj played here in the afternoon and then went home for supper.

For supper here I taught James how to make spaghetti (which he loves) and he was quite pleased with that. Before we started to took some of the dry spaghetti into the hall and spelled out "DANGER" in spaghetti. It was pretty funny.

After dinner, he packed up to go to AJ's for a sleepover. He did all the packing himself so I'll find out today what as missing :)
We got our coats on and when we went to put on our boots, James was pretending to be a hobbit and told me that hobbits don't wear boots even in the misty mountains where there is snow. I gave him a look that must have said to him that I did not approve of HIM going without boots and he quickly indicated that he was a slightly different race of hobbit than Frodo and he put his boots on :)

Re-installed

I have a new computer that actually connects to the internet consistently! YaY!
So to celebrate I have uploaded some photos taken of James at one of his previous games. There was a professional photographer there and she took some great pics!

Sorry, my computer is STILL having issues and so posting is not happening regularly.

This morning James' team won the championship cup for their age group! James is so pleased. They were up against St. Joe's who I think they had lost to every game this season. St. Joe's were the best so it was really quite a win. They said this is the first time the Salvation Army team has won the cup for this age group. They are pretty pumped.

Tomorrow the team is going to the Salvation army church on Weller ave for hockey Sunday. Rob Ramage is going to be talking about making good life decisions. Rob is a former NHL player who drank and drove and it ended up killing another former NHL player. Rob is currently still serving time but I believe he's got a pass for this. 10:30am for anyone interested.
