Romeo and Juliet

In one of Leona Lewis's songs she has a lyric that says something like: "Like Romeo and Juliet, our families can't divide us"
But didn't Romeo and Juliet's families manage to keep them apart?
A literary sort of question for you Saturday morning.

Hmmm. That is a very silly lyric indeed.

Romeo and Juliet's parents did not keep them from loving each other, and I guess they are united in death at the end of the play. If that is what the songwriter was thinking of when she wrote her lyric, she must be a morbid woman!

Perhaps her point is that love is stronger than death?

"I don't understand it! We started out like Romeo and Juliet, but we ended in tragedy!"- Milhouse
