lost and found

I stayed up late last night because I got wrapped up in the novel "lost and found" by brooke davis. It is a story about a 7 year old girl, Millie, whose father has died and her mother abandons her. She meets up with a widowed man who is mourning the loss of his wife and has escaped from an old person home. He rescues her and is taken to the police station while the child goes home. The child is then rescued again by the lady who lives across the street and hasn't left her home in 7 years. They all band together after the man escapes the police station and go on a journey of redemption across Australia.

At one point in the journey Millie meets another child who has his mother with him. Millie likes this mum:

"You're very beautiful and you smell like a mum, and the woman's face softens and she puts a warm hand on Millie's leg and says Thank you, darling And Millie wants to curl up in her arms and stay there and never leave, but she doesn't do that at all because the lady isn't her mom and you can't really do that to mums who aren't yours. But you should be able to hug all the mums who aren't yours, because some people don't have mums and what are they supposed to do with all the hugs they have?"
